Detailed Summary

The Speed of Trust summary teaches you the core factors related to developing and strengthening trust in your life. In these key points, you will learn why trust is so important in our lives. Trust and credibility are not only important in our personal lives but they have impacted the biggest decisions worldwide. Why do countries become an ally to one state rather than another, why do people trust Walmart for their groceries even after years, why do we drop our kids off at school, and why do governments make certain decisions; everything is backed up by trust in one way or another.

Before we start to work on how we can make others trust us we need to trust ourselves. To develop self-trust we need to be honest with ourselves, develop good intent, cultivate skills and generate consistent results. After that, you can work on making others trust you. That can be done through being honest, showing care, and respect. Now let us dig in and explore each of these factors in detail in the Speed of Trust Summary key points.

The Speed of Trust Summary Key Points

Trust Makes Life Easier

Trust is not only present in our relationships. It is present all around us, all over the world. You drop your child at school because you trust the institution to impart the best knowledge and take good care of him, you deposit thousands of dollars in a bank because you trust them with your money, you share your weaknesses with your partner because you trust him to not use them against you. Trust is everywhere. Whether it is something cooperative or commercial, international relationships among states or as simple as between a child and his nanny. It is excellent for business, relationships, and the economy. Why? Because it makes things easier. If I trust someone with something I would feel relaxed. The tasks will be carried out efficiently and I would not have to nag every other minute. In short, for the world to run efficiently trust is crucial.

Self-trust Over Anything Else

Before you go on to sharing your burdens, making deals, and engaging with others; you need to learn to trust yourselves. It is just like charity begins at home. To trust others; you need to trust yourself first.

The first step towards gaining your trust is cultivating integrity. Let me make it simpler for you. You will trust yourself when you are truthful and honest about your values.  If you are a religious person and want to pray you would need to find the time for it. If you do not honor your commitments to yourself others will not honor the commitments they make with you as well.

The second thing you will need to develop is intent. Analyze and observe why you do certain things and try to form a positive reason for that. For example, If I am helping someone study for an exam I should intend to help them and not just appear as another nerd in the class. Do things for the right and positive reasons.

Capabilities come next. The more skillful you are the more you will trust yourself to handle situations. For example, if your job is to write and you have developed good writing skills you would not be worried about getting asked to write something else than you regularly do. You know you are skilled enough, you know you can write well. For the new task, you will just have to research thoroughly and you would be good to go.

The last one is Results. Achieve results over and over again so that you can develop a sense of confidence in your personality. By instilling these qualities step by step you will start to trust yourself more.

Now, How Can We Make Others Trust Us?

Simple. Ask yourself how are you able to put your trust in someone. We usually trust people who are truthful, respectful, and caring. Think hard before you act in a certain way. Think of trust as something of a bank deposit. When you do something to increase the trust in a relationship you are making a long-term deposit but when you do something to damage the relationship you are withdrawing. Just as a child slowly learns to trust the adults around him; adults need time and bonding to trust others too.

The first thing you can do to make someone trust you is to stay truthful. No matter how hard it is for you, do not lie. Tell the whole truth without buttering and omissions. this will show the other person that you value their existence enough to not betray them with lies and flattery. Second, show that you care. You care for their needs and feelings and you do not take who they are for granted. This will let the other person allow you to become closer to them.

Business and Trust Go Hand in Hand

To run a successful business trust is also important along with your products, marketing, and employees. It would help if you built an environment of trust inside and outside the office.  Act in a caring and respectful way with your employees. This will make them feel at ease and taken care of. When you care for them; they care back for you and your company. They do not think of themselves as employees but they start to think of themselves as teammates who care for the products, services, and wellbeing of the company.

Second, win the trust of the market and customers. Do not sell products that have lower quality. One bad purchase can keep the customers away from your whole product line for the rest of their lives. So try to earn loyal customers by meeting their demands and being trustworthy. Lastly, try to think by placing yourself in a bigger context. What your company is contributing to society? Can you do anything more to increase goodness and help others? If yes, then you should do it because it will increase the trust and credibility everyone has in you and your brand.
