Detailed Summary of Unlimited Memory

Our memory is like a garden. We need to water, weed, and fertilize it if we want the best flowers—and we want the best flowers. So why do we consistently forget people’s names?

It’s because we don’t give our brain the tools and resources it needs to remember. Sure, you can try to remember her name through sheer will or force of repetition or creative association-making. But, that is not sustainable.

You might remember it for a moment, but chances are you will forget again soon enough. This is one of the most common situations in which we see ourselves and it also happens to be pretty embarrassing.

We know that we are supposed to be nice and friendly and all that, but sometimes it’s just hard to remember names. So, we start asking our brains to cooperate. What happens next is that it starts ‘re-routing’ the flow of blood in our brain to be able to remember the name we are so desperately trying to recall.

And then, all of a sudden, the name gets stuck – in your head. But it comes with a price. You suddenly feel exhausted: your brain has had to work very hard to make all that information ‘stick’.

Unlimited Memory Summary Key Points

Want to improve your memory skill? What is an effective method or way to retain information and memory? Well, In my opinion, I must say that the best way to retain memory is by learning. Learning is a tool that automatically directs your mind to learn and understand it comprehensively. And once you learn it properly, it will store in your memory.

Our mind is like a seed and the learning process is like giving water to it. The more we learn things the more we grow. The following key points will let you know what is the most effective and most useful way to learn something that will store in our memory.

Focus on doing only one thing at a time

It is easy to get distracted by the varied task of our daily life. It could be a new email that we received or a text from our friends. However, many of us have this habit of multitasking. We have a bad habit of trying to do multiple tasks at the same time.

Some people do it because they feel it is efficient for their work. Some do it to kill boredom and some do it just because they are capable of it. They believe that doing multiple things at once will enable them to finish everything faster and more efficiently.

Multitasking is a myth and it is not what you think. When your mind is allowed to work on two things at once, you are not doing more than one thing. Rather, your brain is shutting down the part that is done with the first task but still working on the second one.

This phenomenon is called “fluency”, and it’s what happens to your brain in the process of multitasking. Fluency happens when you are doing simple tasks that don’t require a lot of concentration, like driving a car or carrying on a conversation while making a cup of tea. But multitasking can seriously hamper your performance, especially in situations that require focus and attention to detail.

The reason why people feel motivated by multitasking is that they believe they are getting more done and that Project A will be completed sooner if they dip into Project B. The truth, however, is that they are delaying the start of project A – and worse – they feel frustrated with their slow progress.

Use the Power of Association to improve Memory

When it comes to remembering things, we’re surrounded by a plethora of options. More often than not, people will recommend creating images or making up stories from things you have read. In Unlimited Memory, the author showed you how to be creative when it comes to remembering things using association or playing around with words.

You already knew that. So then why do people have a hard time remembering certain things? It’s not because your mind is not storing the information. It’s because you find it difficult to retrieve it back.

Think of it this way: if you have a diary and you write in it today but don’t open it again at least until next year or so, can you read what you wrote one year ago? Likely, you won’t remember anything.

The two things that you can always use regardless of the situation or your preferences are association and playing around with words. The association can be used in a variety of ways – one of them being creating a story or a meaningful sentence. That specific sentence or story you create should be associated with the content that you want to remember.

For example, if you’re trying to remember a date, then you should create a sentence that’ll associate the date with an event or another memorable date. If you are trying to remember a list of chores, then try creating a story in which they’re all part of it, and practice saying the sentence several times, until it becomes ingrained in your mind.

You can use Transform the Letters into Words and Words into Numbers to remember things

A lot of people resort to tricks to try to improve their memory. For example, some use the “method of loci”, where you associate something you want to remember with a location you can remember. This can be a problem if you don’t always go to the same place. Or if you want to make sure that people who don’t know where you’re from can also recall that information.

We’ve all heard of this method, so here is another one: transforming numbers into letters and sounds. The way this works is that instead of associating the number 14 with a 14-story building in the city (which would be difficult to do for someone who isn’t from your area). You turn the number into “Fourteen” which sounds similar and more importantly, has an easily-remembered meaning.

As an example, imagine I am a street vendor in my hometown. And I sell T-shirts printed with numbers that are related to my current inventory (which is also on my website). When I have 14 shirts left in stock, I print Fourteen on the T-shirt.

Not only does this trick work for single digits but also works for double digits. For instance, 23 could be transformed into “twenty-three” and 55 could be transformed into “fifty-five.” The author uses this method personally because he says that it works particularly well for him.

While this trick will not magically transform the text in your book summaries into lyrics in a song that is perfect for the Karaoke bar, it can help you to remember words that are difficult to recall.
